Tire Safety & Maintenance

Your tires are the only part of the car that has direct contact with the road. Tires affect your vehicle handling, braking, and safety. Each year, over 33,000 tire-related car accidents occur and you may not even be aware of how important it is to upkeep your tires. To further prevent yourself from getting in an accident, you can take some additional proactive steps we’ve listed below.

  • Keep your tires properly inflated- Driving on underinflated tires can cause them to wear faster, unevenly and can even cause the vehicle to lose control. Check your tires inflation pressure at least once a month and before long trips. Look for the recommended PSI amount so you are not at risk of a tire blowout.
  • Rotate your tires- To increase the safety of your tires, you need to rotate them. Otherwise, they can get work and go bald quickly. Remember to rotate your tires, if possible, every 5,000 miles to increase the life of your tires.
  • Replace your tires- It’s best to keep a close eye on your tires after about 5 years. Take a close look at the tread depth. If your tires’ tread depth goes below 2/32 of an inch, then you need to consider replacing them. Even if there isn’t a lot of mileage on your car, aging tires can also be an issue. We recommend having them inspected to be safe.

Here are some tire problems to be aware of while driving:

  • Unusual vibrations or thumping noises can indicate an out of balance tire.
  • While driving at a steady speed, pulling to one side can indicate an underinflated or damaged tire.
