  • The Importance of Doctors and Your Personal Injury Case

The Importance of Doctors and Your Personal Injury Case

When you go through a traumatic experience like a car accident, you may forget to take care of yourself. No matter how severe or minor the accident is, you should always make sure to visit a doctor as soon as possible. Without the proper medical assessment from a health professional, there could be hidden health concerns that you may not even know about. Below are a few things to remember when visiting a doctor.

    • Be Completely Honest About Your Past Medical History- Health care providers will often ask you if you have had any previous injuries or illnesses before your accident. It is very important to be honest because it will allow the doctors to make a more accurate diagnosis of treatment for you. Not being fully honest can hurt your legal case as well. If you provide false or incomplete information, the medical opinions could be rejected by the insurance company and the jury.
    • Missing Medical Appointments- When you miss a medical appointment, it shows up as “No Show” on your medical records. You may have had a legitimate reason for missing your appointment, but that excuse will not make it onto your record. Skipping appointments could make it look like you were not committed to getting treatment or that you were feeling fine.
    • Stopping Treatment Too Soon- Insurance companies believe that once a person stops treating, they must be all better. Do not stop treatment until you are completely healed or until your doctor tells you you’re done.

Call Nguyen & Associates, LLC at 702-999-8888 if you wish to further discuss this topic or your case.

  • Tips for Driving in the Rain

Tips for Driving in the Rain

Nearly half of all weather-related car accidents are due to rain. According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, there are on average more than 950,000 automobile accidents each year due to wet pavement, resulting in approximately 4,700 deaths and 384,000 injuries. Here are some tips to remember when driving in the rain.

    1. Turn on your headlights-It’s the law in all states to turn on headlights when visibility is low and especially when driving in the rain.
    2. Beware of Hydroplaning- Hydroplaning is when your tires lose traction with the road due to excess water on top of the road. Your car will slide uncontrollably and it doesn’t take much rain at all for this to happen. If you start to hydroplane, let off the accelerator slowly and steer straight until you regain control. If your car starts to spin, turn your wheel in the direction that the vehicle is spinning, slowly. Do not turn your wheel against the direction it has begun to spin. Do not jerk the wheel sharply in one direction or the other, as you could flip your car.
    3. Drive in the tracks of the car in front of you- This allows the vehicle ahead to displace any standing water that’s on the road.
    4. Increase your following distance- Slick roads, wet brakes and reduced visibility can lead to collisions. Give other vehicles plenty of room and brake early with reduced force.
    5. Grip the steering wheel with both hands to maximize vehicle control- This means putting down your cell phone, coffee, maker and anything else that takes your hands off of the wheel and eyes away from the road.
    6. Defog your windows- Precipitation can cause your windshield to quickly fog up so use the front and rear defrosters to maximize visibility.
    7. Be extra cautious with merging lanes- Motorists should drive defensively and take precautions when passing vehicles to prevent merging collisions.

Remember, these safe driving tips can save your life. If you or anyone you know has been in an accident, please call Nguyen & Associates at (702) 999-8888.

  • Back to School Car Pool Tips

Back to School Car Pool Tips

School is about to be back in session. Before hauling the kids around town, make sure you follow these quick tips to ensure you are all safe.

    • Take your vehicle in for routine maintenance – Changing your engine oil, replacing dirty air and lubricant filters and checking your tire pressure are all important to keep your vehicle on the road.
    • Buckle up and make sure your passengers do too – Seat belt use among high school students is lower than other passengers. If you wear your seat belt, they will too. Wear your seat belt and make sure everyone in the car does too. Keep the car in park until everyone is buckled up.
    • Remember proper car seat safety – Children who are shorter than 4 feet 9 inches must ride in booster seats and only kids 13 years old and older may ride in the front passenger seat.
    • Obey school zone speed limits – Children may not always stay on the sidewalk or within crosswalk lines, so you need to be extra careful while driving through school zones. Watch out for other vehicles slowing down or suddenly stopping to let children out. Please refrain from talking and texting while driving.
    • Getting them out – Have kids exit and enter the car from the curbside and have older children wait on the curb to ensure the younger ones get out safely.

Be safe this school year and please call us at (702) 999-8888 if you have any questions or concerns.

  • Mid-Autumn Festival 2019

    Mid-Autumn Festival 2019

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important holidays in East Asia, also known as the Moon Festival or Tết Trung Thu in Vietnam. Traditionally, this holiday will take place every year on the first full moon after the fall equinox. In Vietnam, the festival focuses mainly on the children and is all about spending precious time with family.

Preparations for the joyful season begin weeks in advance as stalls begin offering moon cakes, sold in a variety of flavors from sweet red bean paste to savory roast pork. Many households make offerings to the God of Earth and children go door-to-door carrying lanterns and performing lion dances.

This year, the event which was hosted by The Vietnamese-American Community of Las Vegas, a non-profit organization, was a huge success. Our attorney, Mr. Mike H. T. Nguyen, has been serving as the chairman of this organization since 2015. He and the board members have spent countless hours in making this event happen for the children. Over 400 families came to celebrate and enjoy free mooncakes, lanterns, and entertainment.

May you enjoy the bright and happy Mid-Autumn Festival with your loved ones and create beautiful memories for life. – from the Nguyen & Associates team.

  • Fun Facts About Thanks giving!

    Fun Facts About Thanks giving!

Fun Fact #1: The very first Thanksgiving took place almost 400 years ago!

The story of Thanksgiving Day is also the story of America. A long time ago, in England, the king got to decide which church his people would attend. Some people wanted to choose for themselves, and decided to leave England to find a place where they could pick their own church.

After traveling around for a while, these English families got on a boat called the Mayflower and sailed all the way from England to America. They were hoping to land in Virginia, but the weather was bad and they had to stop sailing, so they landed in Massachusetts, instead.

Fun Fact #2: 101 Pilgrims came from England to America on the Mayflower

Massachusetts can be really cold in the winter, which is when the pilgrims landed there. Their trip took 66 days, so, besides being cold, they were also really tired and hungry.

Luckily for the Pilgrims, the Native Americans had already lived in America for a long time. They knew how to grow food and hunt and fish and shared their food with the starving Pilgrims. Without their help, the settlers would have died.

Fun Fact #3: Native Americans had lived in America for more than 12,000 years before the Pilgrims came

The next spring, two very special Native Americans taught the Pilgrims how to use fish, to prepare their lands so they could grow crops like corn, pumpkins, beans, and peas. These Native Americans were called Abenaki and Tiasquantum and they were part of the Samoset tribe.

The Pilgrims and the Samoset tribe were friends and decided to join together to protect each other from other Native American tribes who might attack them.

Fun Fact #4: Native Americans used nicknames, too. Tiasquantum’s nickname was Squanto.

That November, the Pilgrims harvested the foods that the Native Americans had taught them to grow. They had so much food that they decided to celebrate their harvest and went out to hunt for deer to eat at their feast. The Native Americans heard the Pilgrims’ guns and got worried that the Pilgrims were going to break their deal and attack them, so they sent their men to find out what was going on.

When the Native Americans learned what the Pilgrims were doing, they joined in the hunt. To say thank you for all that the Native Americans had taught them, the Pilgrims invited them to their feast. All in all, there were 53 Pilgrims and 91 Native Americans at the First Thanksgiving

Fun Fact #5: The celebration lasted for three whole days

The Pilgrims must have been stuffed! The American people kept celebrating the fall harvest for another 200 years, until President Abraham Lincoln officially declared Thanksgiving Day in 1863. Now we celebrate Thanksgiving every year on the fourth Thursday in November.

Nguyen & Associates would like to express to you our sincere appreciation for your business, your confidence and loyalty. We are deeply thankful and extend to you our best wishes for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving.
